Mission & Ministry

Peace & Justice

In keeping with our mission, SSJ Peace and Justice efforts are guided by a desire to continually respond to the ever-changing needs of the world.

As members of the U.S. Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph, we join together with more than 6,500 women religious and 2,500 associates in the United States and raise our voices to proclaim a vision of unity in response to situations and conditions which threaten our global community.

Members of the Federation work through collaborative programs, interaction, prayer, and ministry toward a vision of all people united in one earth community of love, unity and reconciliation.

The Congregations of St. Joseph is an NGO (non-governmental organization) of the United Nations which brings the voices and experiences of C/SSJ communities world-wide into policy discussions at the United Nations.

Locally, our Congregation’s Social Justice Coordinator and members of a Global Awareness committee work to educate, suggest actions and collaborate with various other groups and organizations to provide suggestions for meaningful and timely responses to various peace & justice issues.

TAKE ACTION

We are linked to NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, which educates, lobbies and organizes to influence the formation of federal legislation to promote economic and social justice. NETWORK'S lobbyists, S. Catherine Pinkerton, CSJ, (Cleveland) and S. Mary Elizabeth Clark, SSJ (Philadelphia) have expanded our justice-making capacity in promoting this prophetic and persistent voice for justice on Capitol Hill.
