Sister Eunice Carlos, SSJ Sister Eunice Carlos, SSJ, 95, of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania died on Friday, August 10, 2007. She was in her 79th year of religious life. Born in Frogtown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Driscoll) Carlos. She entered the convent from Saint John the Baptist Parish, Erie, in 1929; made final profession in 1934, and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 2003. She served as Archivist for the Congregation and for Villa Maria College. She was Directress of Alumnae at Villa Maria College, chairperson of the Early Childhood Education Department at Villa Maria College and Postulant Directress at the Villa Maria Motherhouse. She worked in the Elementary Education department at Villa Maria College where she designed the school’s Early Childhood Education program. She was Superior of the Villa Maria College Convent. She taught at Maryvale Pre-school, Erie and became Director there in 1945. She also taught at Erie Day Nursery, St. Joseph’s Home for Children and at St. Andrew School, Erie. She retired in 1973 and resided at the Motherhouse where she became founder and coordinator of the SSJ Prayer Call ministry. She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Villa Maria College, Erie and a M.A. in Education from St. John College, Cleveland, Ohio. She also studied at Mt. St. Joseph Teachers College, Buffalo, New York; George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee; Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey; St. Bonaventure University, Olean, New York; and Boston College, Boston, Massachusetts. She participated in numerous other workshops and seminars. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy High School, Erie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Carlos Martin. She is survived by two cousins: Sheila Martin Pierce and Greg Pierce and by two nephews: James Martin and Gerard Martin. She is also survived by her religious community. Aloysia Michel, SSJ, 91, of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania died on August 1, 2007. She was in her 56th year of religious life. She was born in Meadville on May 8, 1916, the daughter of the late Henry and Blanch (Perrey) Michel. A native of Meadville's St. Brigid Parish, Sister Aloysia always wanted to be a sister. "I always wanted to be a nun to serve God's people,” she had said. She worked at Saint Mary's Home of Erie from 1977 until her retirement in 1998. She was bookkeeper and superior at the Harborcreek Home for Boys, Harborcreek. She also served as a secretary and housemother there. She taught at St. Francis School, Clearfield; St. Patrick and St. Ann schools in Erie. She graduated from Meadville High School in 1934. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Villa Maria College, Erie, in 1966. In 1937, she became a junior accountant after attending Meadville Commercial College, Meadville. She entered the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 31, 1951 from St. Brigid Parish, Meadville. She professed her final vows August 15, 1957 and celebrated her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2001. In her retirement, she lived at the Sisters of St. Joseph Community Living Center in Erie. She is survived by her cousins Wilma Byham, East Lake, Ohio and her son, David Curry. She is also survived by her religious community.
